About boloneko
Free tools that run in your browser: the Options Time Lab, which shows how time changes P&L, and soon, a review of your IBKR account history.
What it is, and what it isn’t
boloneko’s Options Time Lab takes a position you describe (up to 8 legs of calls, puts, and stock) and estimates its P&L on every day from day 0 to expiration, at every price in a range. Broker charts usually show two lines, today and expiration. The Lab fills in the days between, in four views: the time-slice chart, the price-slice chart, the P&L heatmap, and the time-effect map.
It isn’t a broker, a trading platform, or an advice service. It doesn’t connect to any account, doesn’t fetch market data, and doesn’t tell you what to trade. Every number on the site comes from the model described below.
Model and methods
The Lab prices every option leg with the Black-Scholes model:
- European exercise. In the model, each option can be exercised only at expiration.
- Continuous dividend yield. Dividends enter as a yearly yield q, not as payments on specific dates.
- ACT/365. Time is counted in calendar days, and a year has 365 days. Same-day expiration is modeled as a quarter of a day.
- Theta per calendar day. Theta and the time-effect map measure one calendar day, weekends included.
- Day 0 is the entry. Every leg is opened on day 0. With entry prices calculated from IV, P&L at the current price on day 0 is zero; with prices you enter, it shows the gap between your price and the model price.
- No costs. Commissions, fees, interest, and taxes are not included.
- One IV per leg. Each leg keeps its implied volatility at every price and date. The IV shift moves all legs by the same number of percentage points.
Limits
- No live quotes or option chains: you enter the current price, the IV, or the entry prices yourself.
- No volatility skew: each leg has the one IV you give it.
- Early exercise and assignment are not modeled (see above). The time-effect map hatches the areas where early exercise is likely.
- Far from the current price or close to expiration, model numbers can differ a lot from real quotes.
- One underlying per position, up to 8 legs; each leg is a call, a put, or stock.
